Good morning everyone. It is the first Sunday or Advent! Before we get into this post, I know not everyone shares my faith. We all have different beliefs, opinions, and paths that have gotten us to where we are today. So please understand if yours is different than mine that is OK! You do not have to share the same beliefs and views as myself for me to call you friend. I strongly believe that the differences of each of us is what makes life beautiful.
Adent
If you are curious about Advent and never participated I want to encourage you to join in. Advent is celebrated on 4 Sundays, that lead up to Christmas. Each year, Advent will begin on the Sunday between November 27th and December 3rd. Advent is not a hard to celebrate at all and it is a great way to prepare your heart and soul for the true meaning of Christmas.
How We Celebrate
There are several ways to celebrate Advent. We tend to sit at the table as a family for each meal so we do the traditional Advent wreath on the table lighting the candle during our meal. However, it is important that you know Advent can vary from Family to Family and person to person. During our meal, a prayer is said before we start and then we read a devotional. Sometimes we do not read the devotional and sometimes we just have a conversation reading to the questions in one of the devotional books we use. This is a way to get the kids involved and make it not so formal. We have not always done Advent but started around 10 years ago or so, and my kids honestly look forward to it, especially the candle lighting.
Unwrapping the names of Jesus
For me I like to do personal reading. I have a book called
I purchased this book as a preorder on Nov 7, 2019 and have used it every year since! This is my affiliate link, meaning if you purchase from this link I do make a small commission for sharing the link but nothing extra just charged to you. I actually talk about this book in this
video that is on my channel.
She Reads Truth
My other Favorites are the She Reads Truth Studies. I do not buy the book every year but I have bought it a few times in the past. The box set comes from She Reads with some extras and typically a beautiful cross stitch pattern to work on during Advent. The books are well made, and I like to make notes in them during the season, noting some prayers in the margins and hopes for 2023- using them almost as a journal.
You can click
here to purchase this years advent kit, I am not affiliate with She Reads, but that is my referral code. that means clicking that link and then adding to your cart and then ordering will give you a $5 coupon! (but I do not make many if you buy)
>> The amazing thing about She Reads Truth is that you do not even really need to the book! They put the scriptures and the devotion online for FREEEEEE for us. I did a subscription from them for a long time but found I never used the study books and I prefer to open my Bible anyways. You can find the current reading plan, which is Advent right here by clicking the photo of the study. Bookmark it or this post so you can easily find it all Advent long.
I will be reading this as well so please join me on this journey!
